During his working visit to Japan on 11 March, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius took part in a memorial service to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Nearly 20,000 people died or went missing in this disaster. 300,000 more people still cannot return to their homes. The memorial service was attended by the country’s Emperor, the Prime Minister, Ministers and Members of Parliament.

From 10 to 13 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius will be paying a working visit to Tokyo and will hold meetings with the Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida, the Chair of the Lithuania-Japan Parliamentary Group for Friendship Hirofumi Nakasone, and other high-ranking officials.

On 6-7 March in Narva, Estonia, the Foreign Ministers and Deputy Ministers from twelve Nordic, Baltic and the Visegrád countries held a meeting, during which they strongly condemned any act of aggression against Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and called on Russia to immediately withdraw its armed forces to the places of their permanent dislocation.

During the high-level meeting at the United Nations Human Rights Council on 4 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius discussed regional human rights situations, presented Lithuania’s priorities for the UN’s system of human rights protection and iterated Lithuania’s goal of becoming a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2022-2024 period.
