There are reasons to be optimistic about Lithuania’s trade data for the first half of 2022. The Government’s goal of diversifying export markets has not only proved successful but is also gaining momentum.
In order to support the efforts of the international community to mitigate the negative effects of the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine and help victims, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has allocated EUR 200 000 for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) humanitarian assistance activities in Ukraine.

On 21 July, the European Union officially adopted its new 'maintenance and alignment' package of sanctions, which introduces a new prohibition to import gold, also includes one of Russia's largest banks - Sberbank - and extends for six more months all the already existing restrictive measures.
On 19 July, the Coordination Commission on International Sanctions (hereinafter referred to as the 'Commission') held a meeting to discuss the European Commission's updated guidance of 13 July 2022 with respect to the unanimous application of restrictive measures.
On 19 July, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the Foreign Minister of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi. During the meeting, the Foreign Ministers of Lithuania and Oman discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation, global consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, developments in the Middle East region and the European Union’s focus on a strategic partnership with the Gulf region. The Foreign Minister also highlighted Oman’s mediatory efforts to promote regional security and stability, and welcomed the friendly relationship between Lithuania and Oman.
On 15 July, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantas Adomėnas participated remotely in the high-level international donor conference “Moldova Support Platform”, which was held in Bucharest, Romania. The conference aimed at strengthening the international community’s cooperation with Moldova and mobilizing strong political, financial and technical assistance to help the country overcome the impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
On 7-8 July 2022, a Lithuania-initiated high-level Frontline Democracies meeting was held in Vilnius. During the event, participants discussed the challenges facing democracy around the world, possible ways to solve them and further cooperation. Most of the participants came from traditionally more distant, small and medium-sized democratic communities, which a) have recently undergone a democratic transition, b) are democratic success stories in the context of their regions, or c) have taken leadership in the fight against crimes perpetrated by authoritarian regimes. All participants of the event were united by the fact that in one form or another they represent democratic communities at the frontline of a fight against authoritarianism.
On 6 July, an exhibition 'Returned. The Lost International Treaties of the Republic of Lithuania, 1918–1940', under the auspices of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis, was opened in the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs co-organised the exhibition with the Office of the Seimas, the Lithuanian Central State Archives and the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. The exhibition, which will run until 18 September, presents 29 authentic international treaties of the interwar period, the fate of which has been unknown for decades. They testify to the recognition of an independent state of Lithuania, its active foreign policy and a broad geography of international relations.
Conflict-related sexual violence is a deplorable and devastating practice which persists around the world. In some cases it is used as an appalling method of warfare. The widespread use of rape and other forms of sexual violence in armed conflicts demands accelerated action. It inflicts unimaginable suffering and harms individuals, families and communities. But it is not an inevitable consequence of war.
On 14 June, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantas Adomėnas conferred the award of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Lithuania’s Diplomacy Star – on the outgoing Special Envoy for Belarus of the United States in Lithuania Julie Fisher.
On 16-17 June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania hosts the annual Midsummer Snow Meeting, which will bring together Lithuanian and foreign experts in international security to discuss Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, as well as strengthening the defence and resilience of democratic states.
On 1 June in Tbilisi, Georgia, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantas Adomėnas met with the Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Head of the Georgia-Lithuania Friendship Group Maka Botchorishvili, and discussed Georgia’s integration into the European Union.
