A protest was lodged with Belarus over the violation of Lithuanian airspace
On 16 September, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Lithuania and handed a note of strong protest regarding the violation of the Republic of Lithuania’s state border and airspace.
The note states that on the night of 14-15 September 2026, objective monitoring systems detected a violation of Lithuania’s state border and airspace by an unmanned aerial vehicle from Belarus.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers this violation of Lithuania’s state border and airspace a gross breach of international law and strongly demands that Belarus immediately provide a detailed explanation of the incident and prevent any similar violations in the future. Lithuania also demands that Belarus ensure effective control over its territory and airspace and prevent actions that could threaten the security of neighboring states.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that Lithuania reserves the right, together with its allies, to take all necessary measures to ensure national security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its population.
