Lithuania to expand cooperation with Stanford University

On 13 December, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Stanford University signed a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding, marking the beginning of the strengthening of ties with one of the most prominent universities and centres of academic thought in the US and the world. The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Ministry by Audra Plepytė, Lithuanian Ambassador to the United States of America.

The Memorandum paves the way for the signing of agreements for mutual visits and internships between representatives of Lithuanian academia and Stanford University professors, researchers, and PhD students that will deepen research in Lithuania and the Baltic region, and for joint lectures, seminars and other events. The intention is to increase the opportunities for Lithuanian researchers and students to get Stanford University fellowships for research and joint projects with the Stanford academic community.

“Cooperation with one of the strongest US universities opens up new opportunities for academic exchanges between our two countries and contributes to the implementation of Lithuania's foreign policy goals, by deepening US knowledge of Lithuania, its foreign policy and the geopolitical situation in our region. This provides an important impetus for strengthening the strategic partnership between Lithuania and the US," said Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis.

Founded in 1885, near San Francisco, in California, Stanford University currently has more than 17,000 students and employs more than 2,000 professors. In recent decades, the university has consistently been rated as one the world's leading universities in international university rankings. A total of 58 Nobel Prize winners are affiliated with Stanford University.
