The annual contest announced for the Balts’ Award 2023
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Latvia are pleased to announce the call for nominations for the annual Balts’ Award.
The Balts’ Award aims to recognize excellence and achievement related to individual contributions and accomplishments in the promotion of Lithuanian-Latvian and Latvian-Lithuanian translations, teaching as well as enhancing the use of Lithuanian and Latvian languages, research on the Lithuanian and Latvian tangible and intangible cultural and historical heritage, as well as investigative journalism on Latvian and Lithuanian history, culture and tourism.
In accordance with the Regulation on the Balts’ Award, persons and institutions, which have contributed to the areas mentioned above, can be nominated for the Award. The deadline to submit the nominations is 30 June 2023. Regulation on the Balts’ Award and Application Form.
The decision on the winner will be made by the Jury, which consists of Lithuanian and Latvian language, literature, and history experts, as well as representatives from both Foreign Ministries. The Award will be presented by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Latvia in a ceremony held in Vilnius, Lithuania, in the Autumn of 2023.
The applications and Curricula Vitae of nominees from Lithuania should be submitted in English to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania by e-mail urm@urm.lt, or by post to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, J. The Balts’ Award of 3000 euros is annual and equal contributions are made by both Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Latvia. The first Balts’ Award was symbolically presented in 2018 when Latvia and Lithuania celebrated their centenaries. The Award has been previously granted to Laimutė Balodė (2018), Alvydas Butkus (2019), Alberts Sarkanis (2020), Regina Kvašyte (2021) and Dace Meiere (2022).
